报告摘要:

Abstract: In this presentation, a scheme developed for metallic materials to account for crystallographic slip, dislocation accumulation and crystallographic texture in an approximate manner at the continuum scale is described. The intermediate scale of crystal plasticity is shown to be a key aspect of the method. The influence of other heterogeneities such as second-phases is also briefly discussed. The method does not limit itself to loading modes that are proportional but also to modes that are more complex such a load reversal or cross loading. The approach is tridimensional and can be implemented in any commercial finite element code for applications involving large plastic deformations. An example of the use of the continuum approach to the forming simulation of an advanced high strength steel product illustrates the concept.

Education and Career

Professor Barlat received a PhD in Mechanics from the Grenoble Institute of Technology, France, in 1984. The same year, he joined Alcoa Technical Center near Pittsburgh PA, the research facility of Alcoa Inc, where he conducted scientific research for more than 20 years. Dr. Barlat is currently a professor at the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) in the Republic of Korea. He is the director of the Materials Mechanics Laboratory at the Graduate Institute of Ferrous Technology (GIFT). His research focuses on the development of innovative plasticity theories for metals as well as manufacturing technologies for steel products. Professor Barlat is also a Visiting Professor at the Global Innovation Research Organization, Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT) since 2016.

Services to Scientific Community

Professor Barlat is the Editor-In-Chief of the Elsevier book series on Plasticity of Materials. He is also is an associate editor of the International Journal of Material Forming (Springer), and of Mechanics of Materials (Elsevier). In addition, he serves as a member of the Advisory Boards of a number of peer-reviewed scientific journals. Professor Barlat has actively participated in the scientific committees of various international conferences. In 2012, he was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the European Scientific Association for Material Forming (ESAFORM). He was the chairman of the 10th International Conference on Numerical Methods in Industrial Forming Processes (NUMIFORM 2010), which was held in 2010 on POSTECH Campus.

Achievements and Awards

Professor Barlat has published over 250 articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and about 200 in international conferences. He holds three US patents with co-inventors from Alcoa Inc and Kobe Steel, Ltd, Japan. According to Scopus, his h-index is 50 for a total of about 11,000 citations. In 1995, he was the recipient of the ASM Henry Marion Howe Medal of the Material Society for the best technical paper published in Metallurgical Transactions A. Dr. Barlat is an honorary professor of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca in Romania since 2005. He received the 2006 International Journal of Plasticity Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Plasticity. The same year, he was featured by the Thomson Scientific Essential Science IndicatorsSM for an article published in 2003 as one of the most cited papers in the field of Engineering, a recognition which spotlights current and emerging trends in specialized areas of research. As of today, this article received close to 900 citations (Scopus). In 2011, he received the Lee Hsun Lecture Award from the Chinese Academy of Science. In 2013, he won the Khan International Award for outstanding life-long contributions to the field of Plasticity. A special issue of the International Journal of Plasticity was published in his honor in 2015 and includes an editorial summarizing his career (at doi.org/10.1016/j.ijplas.2015.06.014). In 2016, he was elected by the Romanian Academy as an honorary member.
